BOTANICAL WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP with WILLIE SCHLECHTER at OZCF
Award-winning botanical artist, Willie Schlechter, studied Fine Art at Stellenbosch University, graduating with a Masters in Illustration in 2008. After enjoying a career as a high school art teacher, Willie has turned his attention to full-time painting and teaching botanical art workshops privately. His attention to detail and realism has won him awards at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Biennale, the World Orchid Conference and Bottalia, Painted Flora Lucca.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
PAINTS Winsor & Newton Artist Watercolours in a tube or Meimeri, or Sennelier (Winsor and Newton Cotmans are less good paint, but OK for beginners)
PLEASE BRING ALL THE COLOURS YOU HAVE, AS WE WILL WORK WITH VARIOUS SPECIMENS, WHICH VARY IN COLOUR
PAPER Any size Arches Hot Pressed 300g watercolour paper (at least A4)
A sketchbook or several sheets of sketching paper
PENCILS One HB pencil and a 2B sketching pencil
BRUSHES One No.4 size Rotmarder-Kolinsky 3338.04-0590 or
Raphael Series 8404 or W&N Series 3A kolinsky sable with a fine point.
A palette, preferably with six or more wells (new ones need to be scrubbed with Vim to make them less slippery) or a white plate
A soft eraser
A soft, fine cotton cloth – an old hanky or pillowslip (not polyester)
