From Saturday 6 June 2015 Oranjezicht City Farm’s weekly farmer’s market will relocate to the Granger Bay section of the V&A Waterfront for the winter from its current venue at Leeuwenhof.
This scheduled move is due to wet winter conditions that make the use of the lawns and parking area at Leeuwenhof untenable from June to October. OZCF took up this required move for the winter as an opportunity to find additional partners and new infrastructure that would help increase the availability of fresh, healthy, locally-grown produce for City Bowl residents and to provide more support for the more than 15 local small-scale organic farmers that supply the market.
After extended discussions with several potential partners at locations in and near the City Bowl, the V&A Waterfront was the clear choice at the Granger Bay site near The Lookout event venue. A tented precinct for the market will be created for the winter, with trees, veg and herbs in containers, hay bales, lots of seating and more providing a cosy, farmy atmosphere, easy access, great views, protection from inclement weather and a safe, child-friendly set-up. Affordable parking for more than two hundred cars will also be available, with plenty of overflow parking in the area. The market’s position along Beach Road provides easy pedestrian access, making links directly to MyCiTi bus routes, taxis, and the pedestrian and cycling routes through Sea Point and Mouille Point good choices as well.
